While every class is challenging today was different I felt nauseous, light headed, and vulnerable. When she asked me what was going on I explained to her that my grandmother had just passed. She offered her condolences and explained that oddly enough during class she heard her grandmothers voice speaking to her. How interesting that we not only used each other's energy to get through class today but also had our grandmothers as a focal point. My maternal grandmother whom I call "Ma" is one of the women I aspire to be. A woman who loved her family endlessly, a woman who was wise, and woman who was giving. A woman who was blessed. At times she seemed to have enough strength and faith for the entire family. I could tell her nearly everything and she delighted in hearing it all. The joys, the pains, the sorrows, my confusion, my trumps. She seemed to always have the answers and if she didn't she prayed about it and told me that I was covered no matter what. So stand strong and walk forward, she would say. I will miss our conversations, I will miss coming to her house and seeing her walk around the corner into the living-room. I will miss sitting underneath her arm on the couch, I will miss seeing her clap slightly off the beat in church. I miss her madly. Ustrasana is the deepest backbend and one of the most powerful postures of the series. It compresses the spine and opens the chest leaving the practitioner open to unpredictable emotions. The beauty of the posture is that when you come up you never know what your going to get! My sister next to me and I got our grandmothers and for me that was a moment of sadness followed by a flush of intense joy as I remembered her legacy.
